This
session focuses on jazz and gospel arrangements of songs accompanied by piano,
Orff instruments and non pitched percussion. The
materials have been chosen because although many songs in this idiom seem
complicated, these progressions allow for an elemental approach when interpreting
them with children. Rhythmically
they are challenging, but with a little preparation there is no reason why
4th- 8th grade students should not be able to perform these pieces. It
is encouraged that students be allowed to create movement to further interpret
the style. Piano accompaniments
will be provided. It is important to swing the eighth notes when playing
in the jazz and gospel style. These pieces will be big hits as a part of
your students performances.
This
session consists of several original recorder songs that progress through
the G pentatonic scale from easy to hard. It
is my philosophy that kids need to have success immediately making a good
tone on the recorder and playing with good technique. I start my students with these pieces because they get them
turned on about playing the recorder. The
children love these songs because of the accompaniments. The
accompaniments are available on sheet music or on CD to give the teacher
access to this rich, contemporary and professionally recorder arrangements
with full band instrumentation
This
is a showcase of original music I've composed for elementary chorus. Many
of the pieces deal with issues confronting our children and our world. All
the songs have a positive, encouraging message, as children's music should.
